BMW will bring full-blooded M power to its X3 medium SUV for the first time ever in August, with the X3 M to take on the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S. The X3 M features a number of performance upgrades headlined by a twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine pumping out 375kW/600Nm.

BMW’s coupe-style X4 medium SUV will be taken to the next level in August with the arrival of the X4 M, which will take up the challenge to the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S Coupe. The X4 M scores a number of enhancements over the previously range-topping M40i variant, including the 375kW/600Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine.

Entering its second generation with the GLE nameplate, Mercedes-Benz’s large SUV is box-fresh and ready to make some noise in its segment again with leading infotainment and a mild-hybrid option.

After a series of delays, Nissan will launch its second-generation Leaf full-electric hatch with a 40kWh battery that provides a claimed 270km of the driving range on the WLTP combined cycle test.

With volume-building expectations, Citroen’s C5 Aircross mid-size SUV has a tall task ahead of it, but at least it will ride comfortably thank to its innovative Progressive Hydraulic Cushion dampers.

New to the Mercedes-Benz arsenal will be the more traditionally styled A-Class sedan to compliment the soon-to-be-released CLA and already on-sale A-Class hatchback to bulk-out the small-car line-up.

The fourth-generation Mazda3 small hatch is set to enter showrooms with a sporty new look and more premium appointments, although the upgrades will come at a cost with its entry-level price rising considerably.

As has become a yearly tradition, Isuzu will again tweak its D-Max ute, although the exact changes in store for it are yet to be detailed. Given a new-generation model is on the horizon, upgrades are likely to be minor.

While Isuzu will give the MU-X large SUV its annual model-year update, it is not yet known what improvements will be made to it. Extra equipment is a certainty, but mechanics are likely to be untouched until its next generation.

The most potent version of Alfa Romeo’s new Stelvio SUV is set to arrive in the first quarter, following the rest of the range’s release in March 2018. Under the bonnet, the Quadrifoglio packs the same 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre V6 as the top-spec Giulia Q.

Less than six months after the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro 2SS launched Down Under, its facelifted model is set to enter showrooms with a bold new look and an upgraded automatic transmission.

Hyundai is set to add a second body style to its hot i30 N range with the Fastback five-door sedan that features the same 202kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and six-speed manual transmission as its hatch counterpart.

Based on the Kona crossover, the emissions-free Kona Electric is Australia’s first battery-powered small SUV and is set to arrive Down Under sometime in the first half of 2019.

Honda is set to refresh the Civic small sedan with minor tweaks inside and out while expanding its suite of advanced driver-assist systems to more variants.

Lamborghini is set to significantly facelift its Huracan supercar with the introduction of the new Evo variant that takes its engine tune and active aerodynamics from the hardcore Performante.

Porsche is set to release the 992-series 911 sportscar, which ups the ante over its 991 predecessor by introducing a smooth new look, an improved cabin, more powerful engines and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

McLaren is set to take the roof off its 720S supercar, but the Spider sacrifices almost no performance when compared to its coupe sibling, with the same zero-to-100km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds achieved.

Audi has treated its A4 mid-sizer to a subtle update that sees a new S Line Competition package, with the Sedan and Avant wagon body styles to arrive in Australian showrooms early in 2019.

Mercedes-Benz will complete its X-Class ute range with the arrival of two X350d variants that are motivated by a 190kW/550Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6.

Renault is scheduled to replace the 88kW/190Nm 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine in its Captur line-up with a 110kW/250Nm 1.3-litre turbocharged unit, with the upgrade also ushering in a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

As part of a model-year update, Suzuki is set to drop the 82kW/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from its Baleno and instead opt for a naturally aspirated range.

Volkswagen is set to re-enter the camper-van segment with its Caddy Beach that packs a fold-out bed, a walk-through tent, two folding camp chairs and table, and tray tables for rear passengers, among other features.

Kia's Picanto was the runway market leader among the micro cars last year, and the Korean brand is now set to bolster the baby hatch line-up with the 74kW/172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-triple GT.

Suzuki Australia is expected to launch the updated version of its Vitara small SUV, though limited details of the new model have been revealed.

Kia's fourth-generation Cerato hatch will kick off from $19,990 driveaway for the entry-level S with a six-speed manual, and will top out at $26,190 for the Sport+. The sportier, turbocharged GT variant will also join the range in January.
