Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: SLK-class

Released: Aug 2011

Mercedes-Benz claims it will establish new safety standards for open-top sports cars with its third-generation SLK. The styling is understood to be inspired by the gullwing-bodied SLS supercoupe. Driver assistance systems will include the standard fitment of drowsiness detection and the optional availability of accident prevention systems that can apply the brakes autonomously.

Make: Porsche

Model: Panamera - Hybrid

Released: Aug 2011

The Panamera Hybrid is likely to come with the same hybrid drive system as the current Cayenne Hybrid - which runs Audi’s 245kW/440Nm supercharged 3.0-litre petrol V6, assisted by a 37kW/300Nm electric motor, fuelled by a 288-volt nickel-metal hydride battery under the floor of the cargo area.

Make: Citroen

Model: C5

Released: Aug 2011

The upgraded C5 represents a midlife makeover for the French brand’s mid-size sedan and wagon range. Citroen will stick with 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel variants for both the C5 sedan and Tourer in Australia.

Make: Ford

Model: Focus

Released: Aug 2011

The third-generation Focus will be sleeker, more upmarket and packed with technology. Three four-cylinder engines will be on offer from launch, with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol units plus a 2.0-litre TDCi four-cylinder turbo-diesel available across Ambiente, Trend, Sport and Titanium trim levels.

Make: BMW

Model: 1 Series - M Coupe

Released: Aug 2011

The 1 Series M Coupe will provide a high level of standard equipment as well as improved dynamics, including an an extra 25kW of power and 50Nm of torque over the 135i Sport’s acclaimed 3.0-litre turbo six. The six-speed manual-equipped 1 Series M Coupe will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds – the same as the manual M3 sedan.

Make: Peugeot

Model: 308

Released: Aug 2011

Updated styling and the French brand’s fuel-saving ‘e-HDI’ idle-stop and regenerative braking technology, a 25kg weight loss and ultra-low rolling resistance tyres, the hatch, wagon and coupe-convertible 308 range will also gain more technology to help keep it competitive. The coupe-convertible will arrive a couple of months after the hatch and wagon.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: C-Class - Coupe

Released: Aug 2011

Mercedes-Benz will replace the ageing CLC in Australia with a sexy new C-class coupe. The new car is expected to be a more premium product and therefore cost more but Mercedes insists that it will be attractively priced. The new coupe will be introduced at the same time as a mid-life facelift for the C-class range.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Jetta

Released: Aug 2011

The new longer, roomier Jetta will be sourced from VW’s North American plant in Puebla, Mexico. Similar engine and transmission packages to the Golf on which it is based are likely although VW is keen to distance the Jetta from being just a Golf sedan – it claims that the design has shifted so far from Golf that the new Jetta is “just as independent as a CC or Tiguan”.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Accent

Released: Aug 2011

Featuring the ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language that debuted with the ix35 SUV and i45 mid-size sedan, the Accent sedan will form a more upmarket sibling to Hyundai's i20 hatch in the light-car segment. Hyundai pulled a surprise at AIMS by announcing a hatch variant would sell alongside the sedan model as well.
