Model: Z4 - Coupe

Released: Oct 2006

Due on sale here in October, BMW's Z4 M Coupe will be priced at $127,200 - $2300 less than the Z4 M Roadster and $2800 less than the M3 coupe, with which it shares its 252kW/365Nm 3.2-litre inline six. The Z4 3.0si Coupe is priced at $87,900 as a six-speed manual and $90,500 as a six-speed auto.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Elantra - Sedan

Released: Oct 2006

Hyundai's fourth-generation Elantra sedan is available from October in four grades priced from $19,990. The Korean car-maker says it's the nation’s second most affordable five-seat model to be available with stability control – after its own Getz 1.6 hatch with the ESP-containing Protectz Pack.

Model: Cayman

Released: Oct 2006

Porsche's entry-level 180kW/273Nm 2.7-litre Cayman joins the 3.4-litre Cayman S coupe that went on sale in early 2006. The base Cayman will be priced at $118,000 - $10,400 more than the similarly-engined Boxster roadster and $30,500 less than the 3.4-litre Cayman S coupe.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Santa Fe - CRDi

Released: Oct 2006

Hyundai's stylish new Sante Fe range will be bolstered by a turbo-diesel vaiant from October. The 2.2-litre CRDi is a common-rail four-cylinder unit offering 335Nm of torque between 1800rpm and 2500rpm, and 110kW of power at 4000rpm, driving through a five-speed automatic gearbox.

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: Pajero

Released: Oct 2006

Mitsubishi's all-new Pajero will be made available in both long-wheelbase five-door and, for the first time in almost a decade, short-wheelbase guises. Expect both bodystyles in showrooms from November, offering a MIVEC-improved 3.8-litre V6 and a common-rail-equipped 3.2-litre turbo-diesel.

Model: Caprice

Released: Oct 2006

The WM Statesman and Caprice will offer the same 195kW/340Nm 3.6-litre V6/five-speed auto combo as premium VE Commodore sedans, while the SS variant's 270kW/530Nm 6.0-litre Gen IV V8 (with six-speed auto) will be optional. Pricing will range between $58,990 and $69,990.

Model: Swift - Sport

Released: Oct 2006

Suzuki winds up the five-door Swift's street cred still further with the three-door Sport hatch. The Peugeot 206 GTi rival gets a stroked 92kW/148Nm 1.6-litre version of the Swift’s 74kW/133Nm 1.5-litre alloy DOHC VVT four-cylinder, plus tauter suspension and bigger 16-inch alloy wheels.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: E-class

Released: Oct 2006

A facelifted E-class range arrives in October as the first cosmetic update of the seventh-gen Benz large carl, launched here in 2002. Expect a new grille, revised interior, a 285kW 5.5-litre V8 (for the S500) and the 380kW/630Nm 6.2-litre V8 E63 AMG to replace the E55.

Make: Ford

Model: Falcon - BFII

Released: Oct 2006

Ford's answer to the VE Commodore, the BF MkII Falcon, goes on sale in October. Pricing and specs won't be announced until launch, but expect visual tweaks to headlights, bonnets, bumpers and grilles, plus the availability of a six-speed ZF automatic and stability control across the range.

Make: Citroen

Model: C6

Released: Oct 2006

Citroen's first large luxury car in more than six years arrives in October as the French maker's first $100,000 model. For $97,500, the C6 sedan comes with a huge standard specification list and a 155kW/290Nm 3.0-litre petrol V6. The 150kW/440Nm 2.7-litre twin turbo-diesel HDi V6 costs $103,500.

Make: Toyota

Model: Aurion

Released: Oct 2006

Codenamed 323L, Aurion will be powered exclusively by a 3.5-litre DOHC V6 that will deliver in excess of 190kW, giving it the upper hand on Ford’s BF Falcon and, possibly, Holden’s VE Commodore. Replacing Avalon, Aurion will be Toyota Australia's most serious shot at large sixes like Commodore and Falcon.

Model: Q7

Released: Oct 2006

Priced from around $85,000, Q7 is a big seven-seat wagon with 4.2-litre V8 petrol and 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel power – both with a six-speed auto, quattro all-wheel drive and leather as standard. Q7 sits on a 3002mm wheelbase that dwarfs BMW's X5, VW's Touareg and the Benz M-class.

Model: B9 Scrambler concept

Released: Oct 2006

Subaru's full-size B9 SUV is likely to be offered in two variants Down Under: five-seater or seven-seater, both with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder and both with high levels of standard specification. Prices are expected to start around $60,000.

Make: Holden

Model: Captiva - MaXX

Released: Oct 2006

Holden's upcoming Captiva SUV range will be topped by a flagship MaXX variant based on the Opel-designed Antara - a very different car to the GM Daewoo designed Captiva itself. Two distinct 3.2-litre V6-powered models under the same nameplate will provide Ford with a serious rival for Territory.

Make: Lexus

Model: RX

Released: Oct 2006

The RX400h will be Lexus' second hybrid model, following the GS450h sedan. On sale from October, the luxury five-seat SUV combines a 157kW 3.3-litre petrol V6 with two electric motors, one for each axle. Expect a price premium over the RX350 - and a third hybrid Lexus in next year's LS600h limo.

Released: Oct 2006

Ferrari's all-alloy 599 GTB Fiorano is a replacement for the 550/575 series introduced a decade ago and takes the mantle of being the most powerful production Ferrari ever built. The front/mid-engined two-seater brandishes a 6.0-litre V12 punching out 462kW (620hp) at 7600rpm and 608Nm at 5600rpm.

Model: Captiva

Released: Oct 2006

Holden's first legitimate medium SUV, the GM Daewoo-built Captiva, aims directly at Ford's Territory and Toyota's Kluger. Expect cheaper pricing, a 169kW/297Nm 3.2-litre V6, part-time AWD, up to seven seats, three variants and a range-topper based on the Opel-designed five-seat Antara luxury SUV.

Make: Volvo

Model: XC90

Released: Oct 2006

Volvo's first ever V8 motivates the flagship of the facelifted XC90 luxury SUV range, which also comprises turbo-diesel for the first time from October. The new D5 offers 136kW/400Nm, the 4.4-litre V8 makes 232kW/440Nm and the entry-level 2.5 turbo five remains. Pricing spans $70,000 to $85,000.

Model: Mazda6

Released: Oct 2006

Mazda is set to introduce a new-generation turbo-diesel engine into its Mazda6 medium car around October. The new common-rail 2.0-litre engine produces 105kW at 3500rpm and 360Nm at 2000rpm with a targeted combined fuel consumption of 6.0L/100km in six-speed manual guise.

Model: Boxster

Released: Oct 2006

Porsche has brought Boxster’s engines in line with its Cayman coupe sibling by blessing its entry-level convertible with VarioCam Plus, and its Boxster S with the 3.4-litre flat six from Cayman S. Pricing is up, at $108,800 for the Boxster five-speed manual (up $1400) and $134,600 for the Boxster S.
