The SV6 is the sporty Commodore that provides a mid-way step from the Berlina to the V8-only SS.
Boasting Holden’s High Output Alloytec V6, the 3.6-litre engine develops 195kW @ 6500rpm and 340Nm @ 2600rpm and is mated to a standard six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic.
In keeping with its sporty pretensions, the SV6 gains 18-inch alloys, dual front and side airbags (curtain airbags remain an option on leather trim seats), sports suspension, sports dashboard, body kit and rear spoiler, front foglights, body coloured mirrors and door handles, dual exhausts with chrome tips, leather-wrap steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity and electric windows.
In September 2009 the VE range was updated, with the SV6's 3.6-litre engine gaining direct-injection.
In addition to the new engine, Holden also improved noise and vibration levels and suspension revisions designed to increase high-speed stability, lane-change performance and on-centre steering precision also made it into the upgrade.
A new dual exhaust system reduced noise, along with extra acoustic deadening between the cabin and the engine compartment.
