The second-generation V-car was a complete redesign inside and out.
Touted as “Big New Commodore V6,” it finally brought size parity with high-flying Falcon, although the previous narrow track is retained. Executive replaced SL (except for fleets).
A coarse US-made engine (125kW 3.8-litre OHV V6) stood in for expensive (Japanese-made) Nissan 3.0-litre OHC in-line six-cylinder engine. The four-speed auto and five-speed manual were also American.
The boxy wagon offered a seven-seat option. An uprated 127kW 3.8-litre V6 arrived in November 1990.
