After tentative applications on go-faster 1972 HQ Kingswood and ’76 LX Torana hatchback models, the SS name started its long career as the definitive factory Commodore V8 sports sedan with the VH.
Base engine was the 100kW 4.2-litre V8. Red and white were the only available colours.
The VH differed from its 1978-81 VB/VC series predecessors by featuring new headlights, bumpers and taillights, more-efficient engines, and minor trim changes.
Engine options: 5.0-litre V8 - 117kW @ 4000rpm (single exhaust), 126kW @ 4400 (dual exhaust option).
