The second-generation V-car was a complete redesign inside and out.
Touted as “Big New Commodore V6,” it finally brought size parity with high-flying Falcon, although the previous narrow track was retained.
A coarse US-made six-cylinder engine (125kW 3.8-litre OHV V6) stood in for the expensive Nissan-built (in Japan) 3.0-litre OHC in-line 'six'. The four-speed automatic and five-speed manual gearboxes were also American.
An uprated 127kW version of the 3.8 V6 arrived in Nov 1990.
New standard features: Alarm, rear centre boot/ski hatch.
Engine options: 165kW 5.0-litre V8 optional from March 1989
