Super TestCar reviews - Nissan - Patrol - ST 3.0 TDi 5-dr wagonNissan modelsEngine6 Feb 2001 By P TIBBLES NISSAN'S new turbo diesel is state-of-the-art because it incorporates just about all the technology known to the diesel world with direct injection, four-valves per-cylinder, twin overhead camshafts and twin balance shafts for smoothness. Clever timing of the injection pulses, plus high-speed swirl in the combustion chambers help compensate the tendency of direct injection to be noisier than a regular diesel. Another clever aid is the employment of a variable-vane turbocharger that alters blade pitch to regulate boost rather than a "wastegate" that bleeds off excess boost. Did you know? The 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel produces slightly more power and torque than the 4.2-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel still offered by NissanAll car reviewsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chevrolet Chery Citroen Chrysler Dodge Cupra Ferrari DS Ford Fiat FPV Foton GWM Great Wall Holden Haval HSV Honda Hyundai Hummer Isuzu Infiniti Jeep Jaguar Lamborghini Kia LDV Land Rover Lotus Lexus Maserati Mahindra McLaren Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG Mini MG Nissan Mitsubishi Peugeot Opel Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen |
