The GU Patrol gained extended and reinforced crumple zones for improved crash performance. Frontal impact performance, particularly offset impact, is "in line with European Union norms" says Nissan. A driver's side airbag is now standard on all Patrols. A passenger side bag is optional on ST. The Patrol complies with the most recent side impact standards applied in Europe and Japan in 1998.
