The 1.8-litre engine produces 132kW at 5500rpm and 235Nm of torque at 1950rpm. The relatively small capacity is theoretically compensated by an efficient five valves per cylinder intake system. It came in early 1999 and was sensibly only offered with the quattro all-wheel drive transmission.
