AUDI is on the march, attempting to consolidate its double-digit sales growth over the last four years with yet even more derivatives of its B8 generation A4 sedan and wagon. The 2.0 TFSI quattro is the latest, introducing the S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox to the range for the first time, as well as a highly tuned version of the direct-injection turbo four-cylinder petrol engine found in the acclaimed VW Golf GTI. The specifications look impressive, but how does it all translate out on the road. Read on and find out ...

Audi B7 A4 2.0 TFSI
Released: March 2005
Ended: March 2008
Family Tree: A4THE B7 A4 was a reskinned version of the elegant B6 A4 from 2001, but Audi lost its way with too-firm suspension as it tried to match the superior rear-wheel-drive BMW 3 Series. Nevertheless, the 2.0 TFSI quattro model was perhaps the most convincing, using the VW Golf GTI’s 147kW/80Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed sequential shift automatic gearbox, and driving all four wheels via Audi’s exemplary Torsen differential quattro all-wheel-drive system. Equipment and safety levels also ranked highly, as did the excellent build and presentation quality inside. S-Line versions arrived from the middle of 2006, but beware of the hard ride.
