AUSTRALIANS have been said to follow European car buying tastes, except occasionally we do not – and the A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI Sport has landed in a genre that has become the exception.
The wagon version of the ninth-generation A4 will not be nearly as popular as Audi’s forthcoming new Q5 and nor is it even offered with a diesel engine locally.
Yet the sight of an oiler-engined ‘estate’ or ‘Avant’ is ubiquitous around the Continent. Some even wear hubcaps.
This 2.0 TFSI Sport is the antithesis of a base model with basic specification, though, particularly given that our test car arrived with $12,000 in options to almost empty the cupboard of cost-extras.
So, can a fully-loaded load hauler woo buyers out of other sub-$100K SUVs?
