Super TestCar reviews - Mazda - MX-5 - convertibleMazda modelsSteering14 Feb 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON THE standard power-assisted rack and pinion steering has a quick 15:1 ratio that requires just 2.6 turns of the tiller lock to lock. The turning circle of 9.2m is good, too. Variable power assistance is engine-rpm sensing. The steering shaft has been lengthened 10mm to improve impact absorbing capacity and the steering column reinforced to minimise vibration at high speeds.
