Strong demand for the Urus SUV saw the brand’s sales increase by 13 per cent compared with 2020.
The Sant’Agata-based subsidiary of the VW Group registered double-digit growth in all three of the macro-regions in which the Italian brand is established: America (+14%), Asia Pacific (+14%) and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa, +12%). The company said it had maintained a “fairly balanced” split between those regions in global volumes at 35, 27 and 39 per cent respectively.
The USA held on to top spot (2,472 units, +11%), with China in second place (935, +55%), followed by Germany (706, +16%) and the United Kingdom (564, +9%).
According to VFACTS, Lamborghini sold 131 vehicles in Australia compared with the 111 it retailed in 2020 (+18%).
The Urus, of which 5021 units were delivered, was the brand’s top-seller, followed by the Huracán (2586) and the Aventador (798) super- and hyper-car models. In our market, the balance between sales of Lamborghini SUVs (64) and sportscars (67) were almost even, however.
“This record confirms the solidity of our strategic plan, our brand’s outstanding reputation, the competence and passion of our people and the exceptional professionalism of our 173 dealers in 52 markets,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Lamborghini launched the Huracán STO (Super Trofeo Omologata), Aventador Ultimae and the somewhat controversial limited-run Countach LPI 800-4 during 2021. The brand said it had a “substantial order portfolio that already covered almost the entire production planned in 2022.”
The Sant’Agata-based company plans to unveil four new products over the next 12 months. It will launch its first hybrid production model in 2023 and electrify its entire range by the end of 2024, with the aim of cutting CO2 emissions by 50 per cent from 2025 onwards.
Subsequently, a fourth fully electric model is due to be added to the range in the second half of the decade.
Winkelmann added: “We are stronger than ever as we prepare to embark on a period of profound transformation. In 2022 we’ll be doing our utmost to consolidate the current performance and get ready for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023 onwards.” Read more |
