News - General News - SafetyAMG, Kia, Ford and Volkswagen issue recallsMercedes-AMG, Kia, Ford and Volkswagen all issue recalls for almost 2000 cars22 Oct 2020 1901 vehicles have been recalled so far this month by four different manufacturers comprising of Mercedes-AMG, Kia, Ford and Volkswagen.
More than half the vehicles in question were produced by Mercedes-AMG with the performance band recalling 1140 examples of its MY18-20 C63, C63 S, GT63 S and GLC63 to reprogram the cars’ electronic stability program control unit.
According to AMG, the control unit may have been incorrectly programmed for the type of brake in the vehicles which “could lead to an inappropriate ESP intervention in some driving situations”.
While not imminently fatal, the brand says the fault does increase the risk of a crash potentially inflecting injuries or death on both the vehicle occupants and other road users.
As a result, officials are asking affected owners to contact their preferred Mercedes-Benz retailer and arrange a free repair.
The second biggest share belongs to Kia which is recalling 371 examples of its MY20 Stinger sports sedan to rectify a possible blockage within the fuel pump.
According to the recall notice, a plastic burr left from the moulding process of the pump’s jet nozzle housing may dislodge and block the nozzle, potentially starving the engine of fuel.
If this eventuates, the engine could lose power, misfire or stall.
“Kia Motors Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles by direct mail,” the brand said.
“Consumers should contact their nearest Kia Motors Australia dealer to arrange for an inspection and repair of the vehicle, free of charge.”
Ford’s recall meanwhile is to address a potentially faulty lower control arm on its MY20 Transit and Transit Custom vans (344) where welds may not be complete, which could result in the component failing completely.
If this were to happen, Ford says it could result in a loss of control, inevitably increasing the chances of a serious crash.
As such, the brand is contacting affected owners to arrange a free inspection and repair.
Sticking with vans, Volkswagen is recalling 45 examples of its MY19-29 Crafter van to address potentially damaged windows.
According to the recall notice, a limited number windows may have been damaged during production and as such could leak water or even fall out of the vehicle.
“A car window falling onto the road could cause an accident involving other road users, causing potential injuries or death,” the notice read.
As with the other recalls, VW is contacting affected owners to arrange a free inspection and repair.
