The 9-3 uses rotary switches for temperature, air direction and fan speed. A separate button is provided to recirculate the air inside the car. The system incorporates a pollen filter. Rare among European cars is an adjustable vent for back seat passengers which is mounted in the rear of the centre lidded box. Note: Saab updated the S to include standard climate control air-conditioning from June 2001. Previously, it was a $1500 option.
