HONDA'S Integra coupe has always been capable, but never set the pulse racing.
Until now. The hot Type R version, ostensibly introduced to combat the lighter, faster new Toyota Celica, is a true enthusiast's car. Its rorty engine and agile chassis come into their own on twisty stretches of tarmac. However, its firm ride and relatively high noise levels can make it a tiresome proposition as a day-to-day commuter.

Released: June 1989
Ended: July 1993
Family Tree: IntegraThe Integra has been a favourite halfway house between Civic and Prelude since the mid-1980s. Its coupe status helps with the sporty credentials, as does the 1.8-litre twin-cam 16-valve engine - although VTEC engineering did not come until the VTi-R in 1993.
