Super TestCar reviews - Honda - Integra - GSi 3-dr hatchHonda modelsOverview18 Jun 2003 HONDA'S evergreen Integra achieved three feats in its third generation. Firstly, it doubled the usual on-sale shelf life for a Japanese sporty "coupe" (it's really a hatchback you know) secondly, it defied age and stiff competition from Hyundai and Toyota to remain a segment leader for most of that time and lastly (and perhaps most remarkably), its reputation shot from the unassumingly benign to scorching-hot with the 1999 release of the knife-edged 141kW Typre R variant - considered by some as one of the best-handling front-wheel drive production cars ever made, and a bona fide classic from birth. Just being related to the late, lamented Type R really invigorated Honda's elder Celica beater. And in regular GSi guise, it still cuts it today as a competent, quality runabout with engineering that's a notch above its Japanese and South Korean competitors. Now that prices are finally falling it makes a great used buy to boot.
