The much-improved suspension allows more exploitation of the 5.7-litre alloy V8. The SS also gets some new colours, backed up by boldly coloured optional leather interior trim, as well as the improved set of steering column stalks seen in all Series II Commodores. With all this, plus a six-speed gearbox, it is a hard-to-ignore combination. Another great leap for SS came in June 1999, when the Series II VT arrived with 5.7-litre Chev V8 firepower and 220kW. The VX Commodore brought with it an increase to 225kW and styling changes including teardrop headlights in October 2000, while the VXII model tested here continued the proven theme with only minor colour, trim and detail changes from August 2001. |
