L405 Range Rover

THE third generation Range Rover four-wheel drive landed in Australia in early 2013.

The 2013 iteration was a ground-up redevelopment of the iconic off-roader and Land Rover used an aluminuim monocoque body structure for an overall weight reduction of around 420kg over the previous generation Rangie.

A luxurious new interior with heavy use of leather, aluminium and wood upped the ante over the previous generation and the new version incorporated an Evoque-inspired touchscreen.

Available with a number of engine choices and specifications, the Range Rover had improved efficiency, with the 4.4-litre turbo diesel V8 producing 250kW for a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 6.9 seconds and fuel economy of 8.7 litres per 100km.

The 2013 model was 27mm longer while the wheelbase was stretched by 40mm.

The permanent four-wheel drive system, which splits engine torque 50:50 between the front and rear and offers a low-range setting, was carried over from the old model.
