Mitsubishi recalls ASX

Vexed ASX: Mitsubishi’s smallest SUV has struck steering woes.

Faulty power steering forces Mitsubishi to recall more than 7500 of its ASX SUVs

13 Jan 2012

MITSUBISHI has issued a national safety recall of more than 7500 examples of its ASX city-SUV to fix potentially faulty power steering systems.

A total of 7647 ASX vehicles – more than the 6340 examples sold in total in Australia last year – manufactured between June 11, 2010 and August 10, 2011 are affected.

“There exists the potential for the power steering function to become inoperative, resulting in an increased steering effort required by the driver,” said the recall notice posted by Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website.

“The fixing method of the electrical wiring harness connected to the Electronic Power Steering Control Unit (EPS-ECU) may be inappropriate.”

The sub-Outlander ASX, which was released here in August 2010, received a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating in August last year.

Mitsubishi will notify the owners of all affected vehicles by mail at their last known address, requesting them to have their vehicle repaired at their nearest Mitsubishi dealer.
