News - Mitsubishi - GalantMitsubishi's next Magna measurements questionedMitsubishi gets a rise from both Holden and Ford over size28 Jun 2005 MITSUBISHI’S ‘size isn’t everything’ claim for the interior measurements of its forthcoming PS41 Magna replacement has managed to rile both Holden and Ford. Within days of each other, both manufacturers have put out releases about their specific interior measurements, as per the industry accepted SAE measurements. Holden even went so far as to say Mitsubishi got it wrong. "All six measurements regarding Holden Commodore as cited by the manufacturer were incorrect, some considerably so," Holden said in a statement. "Most notably, actual rear legroom for VZ Commodore (as per industry standard SAEJ1100 – Motor Vehicle Dimensions) is 986mm or more than double the figure suggested by the other manufacturer."Mitsubishi’s response? "The main complaint from both companies seems to be their respective legroom dimensions, and we have been talking to Ford to try and understand how they measure. We thought we did understand and have remeasured Falcon using "their" method, but we are still 80mm short of their dimension," said spokesman Kevin Taylor. "We will re-measure and attempt to get to the same dimensions as them, however the story we gave will not change. PS41 will still have more legroom than either of them." |
