Volvo, Subaru and other vehicles recalled

Come back: Subaru’s WRX and STI models built between 2009 and 2014 have been found to contain a fault that may cause the secondary air pump to overheat and even catch fire.

Heavy recall week as Subaru, Land Rover, Citroen, Volvo and Performax issue notices

16 Jan 2017

THE past week has seen a bevy of models recalled by Subaru, Land Rover, Citroen, Volvo and General Motors for faults associated concerning safety and defective manufacturing.

Subaru has issued a recall for certain turbocharged vehicles – namely the Liberty GT built between 2007 and 2009, WRX and STI variants from 2009-2014, and Forester XT models made from 2009-2012 – over a potential fault in the secondary air pump relay.

If the relay proves to be faulty, it can cause the secondary air pump to engage continuously and overheat, posing a potential fire risk.

Jaguar Land Rover has declared that its Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models sold between March 31 and August 25 contain an incorrectly assembled right hand lower control arm to knuckle joint in the front suspension.

If the front right wheel is exposed to a jarring impact such as hitting a kerb or a deep pothole, it could cause the front suspension to fail, leading to loss of control of the vehicle.

French manufacturer Citroen has recalled its C4 small hatchback after discovering the wishbone bolts in the front suspension may not be to the correct specification.

Affecting vehicles sold between November 2014 and January 2015, it may cause the bolts to break, which would lead to diminished steering control.

Volvo has recalled a number of models over a fault that causes airbags to improperly inflate in the event of an accident, affecting a number of model year 2017 vehicles including the S60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, V40, V40 Cross Country and XC90.

Lastly, Performax International, the largest converter and retailer of American vehicles in Australia, has issued a recall for right-hand-drive converted Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 models, as well as GMC Sierra 2500s sold between May 2015 and October 2016.

The recall concerns the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) which controls airbag and pretensioner deployment, which, if defective, may prevent the deployment of the safety aids leading to an increase in the risk of injury during the event of a crash.

Owners are encouraged to take their vehicle to an authorised dealer or contact Performax directly, to either reprogram or replace the SDM.

In all cases bar the Silverado and Sierra, owners of the faulty vehicles will be contacted by mail and can bring their affected vehicles into their respective authorised dealers for a fix or replacement of defective parts.

All repair work carried out will be free of charge to customers.
