Ram 2500, Subaru range lead latest round of recalls

MULTIPLE manufacturers have been ensnared in the latest round of recalls on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) product safety website over a range of issues including software gremlins and engine problems.

 

American Special Vehicles’ right-hook-converted Ram 2500 and 3500 pair have been issued multiple recall notices in the past month over multiple issues including an incorrect mounting of the heater hose, which can result in wear to the brake pipe assembly and a loss of braking power.

 

The two hulking pick-ups have also been found to have a defective tie rod bracket and mounting hardware which can cause the wheel to turn in the wrong direction, as well as a defective tailgate latch which also affects the smaller 1500 pick-up.

 

Subaru has issued a wide-ranging recall affecting 8383 examples of the Impreza, 14,413 XVs and 767 Foresters built from 2012-13, as well as 1010 units of the BRZ sportscar from 2013, all fitted with a 2.0-litre engine due to a defective engine valve spring that may fracture and cause the engine to fail to start. Toyota’s mechanically related 86 coupe is also affected.

 

MY18 versions of the larger Liberty (1187 examples) and Outback (7889) have also been called back due to providing incorrect driving range figures, potentially leading to drivers running out of fuel.

 

Mercedes-Benz has issued a callback for 102 E-Class large cars, sold from April 2017 to January 2018, due to a fault preventing the bonnet from lifting in the event of an impending collision with a pedestrian.

 

The German manufacturer has also recalled 15 of its new-gen S63 luxury sedans due to a fault in camera software which results in the active lane keep assist not performing automatic braking when detecting an inadvertent lane change at speeds of 105km/h or more.

 

Its hybrid C300 and C350 medium sedans have also been recalled due to an incorrectly routed electric line in the engine compartment potentially leading to a short circuit, with 230 vehicles affected. The new-generation A200 hatch has also been recalled due to the headlights’ high beam potentially being permanently activated, affecting 1096 vehicles.

 

Mitsubishi’s trio of small and medium SUVs – the ASX, Eclipse Cross and Outlander – have been recalled over two separate issues, the first caused by a fault in the forward collision mitigation system that causes it to continue to brake despite danger dissipating. 20,987 vehicles are affected.

 

The second fault is due to software momentarily disabling safety features such as adaptive cruise control, brake auto hold, hill start assist, super all-wheel control and the aforementioned forward collision mitigation, with 35,850 examples affected.

 

Nissan has called back the 2017 model-year Navara pick-up and Juke small SUV thanks to a defect in the internal ignition switch spring, which after prolonged use can cause the engine to shut off and the airbags to not work. The issue affects 14 examples of the Juke and 2060 Navaras.

 

The 2016 Pathfinder seven-seat SUV has also been recalled due to a potential internal brake fluid leak that can cause an electrical short in the actuator circuit, with the potential to cause a fire. 554 examples are affected.

 

Toyota’s Corolla hatch built from 2004 to 2007 has been recalled due to a potential electrical short that can damage the circuits in the airbag sensor assembly which can either cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly or not deploy at all.

 

Ford has recalled 85,863 of its Ranger pick-ups build from May 2011 to May 2015 and 42,907 examples of its Fiesta light hatch produced from May 2010 to September 2016, due to a spring in the side-door latch that may break and cause the door to hang open and not shut. The issue also affects 47,990 of the mechanically related Mazda BT-50 pick-up sold from October 2011 to June 2016.

 

Diesel versions of the Holden ZB Commodore have been called back due to a potential leak in the fuel pump return hose, which can potentially cause a fire. 31 examples are affected.

 

Land Rover has recalled 28 of its MY2018 Ranger Rover Sport and Discovery large SUVs, due to the autonomous emergency braking function potentially not working. 

 

Hyundai’s new-gen Santa Fe large SUV has been recalled due to a fault that can cause the rear side curtain airbag to not deploy properly, with 666 vehicles affected.

 

The HSV-converted Chevrolet Silverado pick-up has been called back with a potentially incorrectly manufactured park brake cable assembly, which can lead to the parking brake disengaging unexpectedly. 107 examples are affected.

 

MG’s ZS small SUV has been found with a potential fault with the stability control system, which can decrease power steering and result in increased steering effort. 1823 vehicles are up for recall.

 

And finally, two examples of the Lotus Evora sports coupe sold between April and October this year have been called back due to an incorrectly specified steering column cartridge screw, which may disengage and cause unpredictable steering.
