Benz, Peugeot, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Holden issue recalls

MANUFACTURERS including Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroen and Holden have issued recalls for a number of vehicles, and even a jack, via the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) product safety website.

Mercedes-Benz has issued two recalls in the past week, one relating to the CLA and GLA siblings and the other the SLK sportscar.

The first recall impacts the left window airbag of GLA and CLA models built between October and November 5, 2016, which Mercedes says may not be manufactured to specifications.

In the event of a crash, the airbag may not deploy which leads to an increased risk of injury for occupants.

The second recall relates to the electronics stability program (ESP) software in the SLK sportscar sold between May 2015 and December 2016, which can potentially keep the brakes engaged even when it is not supposed to.

In rare cases following an automatic brake intervention from a drive assistance system such as adaptive cruise control, the brakes may remain slightly engaged even after the threat has passed, leading to continuous vehicle deceleration.

This may lead to the braking system overheating and compromising the vehicle’s braking system, increasing the risk of injury to occupants and other road users.

In both cases, owners will be contacted by mail to arrange an inspection and fix at their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Meanwhile, Peugeot has issued call-backs for 4204 examples of its 4008 small SUV sold between April 2012 and December 2015, and Citroen with 252 examples of its mechanically related C4 Aircross sold between June 2012 and December 2013 over a similar fault.

Both models are based on the Mitsubishi ASX crossover.

The fault stems from the outer tube of the tailgate’s gas springs, which has had an insufficient amount of anti corrosion coating applied to the end cap of the tube.

Corrosion can cause the end cap to break, which can hit the operator or cause the tailgate to fall down on the head of the user.

Again, owners will be contacted by mail and can then organise an inspection and replacement of faulty parts.

Mitsubishi has recalled its Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid sold between September 19, 2013 and March 2, 2017 over a potential engine software malfunction.

The fault can cause the petrol engine to shut off completely, leaving the car to drive exclusively on EV mode with no electric charge from the engine.

This could lead to the EV battery draining and losing power, increasing the risk of accident.

After being contacted by mail, owners can take their vehicles to their preferred dealer to replace software and spark plugs.

Finally, Holden is recalling its jack assemblies for the RG Colorado, Colorado 7 and Trailblazer, due to some jacks not not being fitted with the correct safety label which outlines the correct usage.

Owners with affected jacks can call Holden Customer Care or their nearest dealer to arrange a label being fitted to their jack.
