ANCAP calls for dash-cam footage

Dashing: community supplied dash-cam footage will add an extra level of realism to ANCAP Safety’s new TV advertising campaign.

ANCAP announces plans to use submitted dash-cam footage in new campaign

16 Mar 2020

THE Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has called for the public’s help as it gears up to launch its next national community awareness campaign which will focus on autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and active lane support systems (LSS).

Dash-cam owners have been invited to submit any footage they have of “common crash scenarios” as well as single-vehicle run-offs or near misses between vehicles and pedestrians to use in the campaign’s creative content.

According to ANCAP communications director Rhianne Robson, the community’s early involvement in the program’s development will get the discussion ball rolling even before the campaign goes live.

“Dash-cam footage clearly demonstrates that everyday mistakes happen to everyday people, yet a mistake on the road – whether it be yours or someone else's – does not have to be fatal,” she said.

“The campaign will focus on the benefits of two key vehicle safety technologies – AEB and LSS – and how their presence can turn a negative outcome into a positive one.

“By involving the community in the development of the campaign, we're not only giving them the opportunity to be part of the road safety solution, we're generating early thought and discussion around the function, benefits and availability of these now common and affordable technologies.”

The submitted footage will be used to create a new television advertising campaign due to hit screens later in the year, with footage able to be submitted via the ANCAP website.
