News - General NewsRebates available for dealers’ EV chargersDRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream offers up to $20K rebate on EV infrastructure21 Jan 2025 By MATT BROGAN THE federal government’s newly launched Dealership and Repairer Initiative for Vehicle Electrification Nationally (DRIVEN) Charger Rebate Stream offers dealerships and repairers a rebate to assist in the funding of purchasing and installing eligible smart electric vehicle (EV) chargers on their premises, including those in remote and regional areas.
The rebate offers up to $2500 per eligible smart EV charger that has been purchased and installed on dealer and repairer sites. Multiple EV chargers may be installed and included in the claim, with a maximum rebate amount of $20,000 per eligible site.
Electric vehicle dealerships and repairers across Australia are eligible to apply for the rebate.
Overall, the federal government has committed $40 million to the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream.
It says the rebate will provide co-funding for dealerships and repairers as they make the transition to the sale and service of electric vehicles, while at the same time increasing the number of EV charging stations across the country, particularly in remote and regional areas, and adding to the number of electric vehicles on our roads.
“The DRIVEN program aims to support the Australian automotive sector sell, service and repair more EVs. The program provides $60 million over four years to support the purchase and installation of EV chargers. Funding is available for dealerships and EV repairers nation-wide,” said the program’s website.
The program will run over four years and forms part of the $500 million Driving the Nation Fund.
The Driving the Nation Fund is said to assist in enabling Australians to shift to electric vehicles (EVs) in several ways.
Delivered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the national fund will expand the national rollout of EV charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure as well as support investment in fleets.
This will be carried out in part by via the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream ($60m), National EV charging network ($39.3m), the introduction of so-called Hydrogen Highways ($80m) in conjunction with state and territory governments.
In a statement, the federal government said the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream will be made available to “as many eligible businesses as possible”, helping to “support the decarbonisation of the transport sector” and “increasing awareness and knowledge of EVs and EV charging technologies for staff and customers”.
It is hoped the program will support the timely development of EV charging solutions to “meet the immediate need of the sector,” the statement continued.
