News - General News - Electric VehiclesSEA’s Glen Walker elected to EV CouncilCommercial vehicle interests now represented at Australia’s peak EV body21 Apr 2022 By MATT BROGAN FOLLOWING the appointment of Volkswagen Group Australia’s Paul Sansom to its board last month, the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) has today announced that SEA Electric’s Glen Walker has been accepted to the body’s board of directors.
As vice president of SEA Electric Asia Pacific, Mr Walker leads the company’s operational activities in the region, including new products, design for manufacture, assembly systems innovation and various product distribution channels, the EVC says.
Mr Walker also recently helped to launch SEA Electric’s newest electric truck – the company’s Melbourne facility produces several vehicles that are available via a nationwide dealer network. The vehicles are powered by SEA Electric’s proprietary SEA-Drive power system, which is available in applications ranging from 4500kg to 22,500kg.
SEA Electric’s vice president said that having a voice within the EVC was a positive move for the entire commercial vehicle segment as it moved towards an electrified future.
“Over the past six years, the EVC has become the pre-eminent industry association representing the modern zero-emission mobility sector in Australia,” said Mr Walker.
“Through this time of transition, it has provided invaluable policy support across all levels of Government.
“I look forward to adding the unique perspective of zero-emission commercial vehicles to this conversation, supporting the EVC mission to accelerate Australia’s transition to sustainable vehicles.”
Mr Walker brings to the EVC years of experience as an executive in the automotive and transport fields. He worked for Kenworth Australia for 18 years in roles including chief engineer and spent three years on executive assignment with Paccar in Seattle, USA.
He also has extensive recent experience working for major transport companies.
Mr Walker will join the EVC alongside CEO Behyad Jafari, head of energy and infrastructure Ross DeRango, head of policy Jake Whitehead, and policy manager Alexander Kelly.
The EVC board also comprises JET Charge founder Tim Washington (chair), Tesla business development and policy manager Sam McLean (secretary), and directors including AGL Energy COO Markus Brokhof, Tritium CEO Jane Hunter, Hyundai Australia COO John Kett, Origin Energy general manager of strategy Chau Le, Evie Networks CEO Chris Mills, Nissan Oceania managing director Adam Paterson, and Volkswagen Group Australia’s Paul Sansom.
The EVC says it represents all businesses producing, powering, and supporting EVs in Australia, aiming to make the market more affordable and competitive through a robust regulatory framework and increased consumer awareness.
Undertaking a range of activities, the EVC leads advocacy and research efforts, industry coordination, and harnesses innovation that builds confidence in EV systems.
