Ford recalls E-Gas Falcon to fix brake valves

FORD Australia is recalling select Falcon models fitted with the E-Gas dedicated-LPG engine to attend to a braking-related issue.

Affecting FG, BF Series II and III sedans, wagons and utilities built from January 18, 2007, and August 22, 2008, the recall notice issued last weekend warns that under certain conditions the vacuum supply from the LPG engine to the brake booster could develop a leak at the check valve, resulting in “reduced power assistance to the vehicle’s service brakes”.

Owners are being advised to arrange with an authorised dealer to have a revised brake booster check valve fitted to their vehicle, which according to Ford will be performed free of charge.

Ford had a safety recall in March for about 95,000 of its non-turbo SX/SY Territory SUVs to fix a problem relating to the front brake hose, which could potentially develop a leak and reduce braking effectiveness.

Falcon owners of a range of models have reported similar brake-hose problems, but Ford Australia has refused to recall the sedan, wagon or ute on this basis after doing its own evaluation.

The company also issued a recall notice last month to fix a potential brake defect in selected imported diesel-powered Focus and Mondeo models.
