New models - Tesla - Model YTesla Model Y pricing revealedUpdated Tesla Model Y in dealerships from June, priced from $3000 more than before25 Mar 2025 By MATT BROGAN TESLA Australia has this week announced full pricing and specification details of its updated 2025 Model Y electric SUV.
Now available to order from $58,900 plus on-road costs, or $3000 more than before, first Australian deliveries of the Model Y RWD and AWD are now available to order for June delivery (full range pricing detailed below).
Claimed battery range for the base RWD is 466km on a single charge (+11km), while the AWD is said to do 551km (+18km) before needing to be plugged in – achieved primarily by improving aerodynamics and reducing brake drag.
The Model Y is faster too with the RWD capable of reaching triple digits in 5.9 seconds (-1.0sec) while its AWD sibling does it in 4.3 seconds. A Performance model is expected in the future, although has not been confirmed.
The visual changes are the most dramatic element of the update, somewhat mirroring the sleek appearance of the redesigned Model 3 but taking front-end cues from the polarising Cybertruck.
Squinty new front and rear light bars provide a more menacing appearance while improving aerodynamics, likewise the new 19- and 20-inch wheel designs albeit without deviating too much in style from the outgoing rims.
Paint colours include Pearl White, Quicksilver, Ultra Red, Glacier Blue, and Stealth Grey. Premium paints attract a surcharge of between $2300 and $2600.
Beneath the bodywork, Tesla has re-tuned the suspension to better handle rough roads and has also achieved the lowest level of brake drag of any Tesla model – unlocking regenerative braking capacity while also increasing range by around five per cent.
The American car-maker says its overhaul of the ride and handling hardware makes the Model Y 22 per cent quieter, “making every drive a joyful comfortable experience for both drivers and passengers”.
The interior upgrades are significant, with an 8.0-inch second row display now offered as standard, sound system improvements, ventilated front seats as standard and upgraded rear seats with electric reclining.
Tesla also listened to its customers and redesigned the indicator stalk. A new front camera has also been added under the front bumper, to aid in low-speed manoeuvring, which also features a self-cleaning function that sprays water on the lens.
On the comfort and refinement front, acoustic glass reduces road noise, and new roof and windshield coatings reflect seven times more solar energy for a cooler cabin. Ambient cabin lighting is said to offer a million colours.
Importantly, the Model Y offers what Tesla says are large crumple zones, updated active safety functions (with Autopilot 4.0 hardware), a new front blind-spot camera, and blind-spot indicators now incorporated within the front door tweeters.
Tesla owners have access to 24/7 mobile tyre repair, a four-year/80,000km vehicle warranty, and an eight-year high-voltage battery warranty with 160,000km limit for RWD models and 192,000km limited for AWD models.
Charging is available via Tesla’s Supercharger network of 110 locations nationally, the high-speed DC chargers offering 282km of range in as little as 15 minutes. Battery capacity is understood to total 62.5kWh (180Ah).
