New models - BMW - 5 Series - M5 sedanThree new BMW M5 variants arriveBMW M5 now kicks off from $185,000 BOCs with Pure editionGalleryClick to see larger images 1 Sep 2015 BMW has introduced three new variants of its M5 super sedan, making the turbocharged V8 four-door more affordable by $44,540. Now priced from $185,000 before on road-costs, the new entry level M5 Pure sits alongside two strictly limited Nighthawk and White Shadow versions, each costing $6390 more than the standard M5 at $235,930. Just 10 each of the limited edition versions will be available Australia-wide while the Pure becomes a regular series production model with no deliberate limit on numbers. Pure versions omit some standard equipment to sharpen the price, forfeiting features such as soft-close doors and rear sun-blind, but retain driver-focused equipment to maintain the model's “performance essence.” Dressed up in Frozen (satin finish) paintwork in a range of Individual colours, Pure versions get 20-inch double-spoke wheels, sports seats and BMW's ConnectedDrive with internet access. White Shadow and Nighthawk justify their heavier price tag with an extra dose of equipment with unique colour and trim combinations, and the previously optional Competition Package. The performance pack boosts power of the 4.4-litre V8 from 412kW up to 423kW and slices a tenth of a second from the zero to 100km/h acceleration – now taking 4.2 seconds. Its soundtrack gets a boost with a special exhaust, ride height is dropped with lowered suspension, while the Dynamic Damper Control, steering and M Dynamic modes have been revised. Despite the potent performance, BMW claims the M5 will still return fuel economy below 10 litres per 100 kilometres. Nighthawk and While Shadow versions add to the Pure equipment with Bang & Olufsen sound system and special floor mats with contrasting binding. Interiors are decorated with carbon-fibre, the M Multifunction seats are upholstered in Merino leather as well as the dashboard, while the roof is lined with Alcantara. Sunroof, four-zone air-conditioning and a TV function are also included in the price of both limited-edition cars. All BMW M5s have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends 690Nm of torque to the rear wheels via an Active M Differential.
