Nissan reveals T-Spec GT-R duo

JUST when you thought the curtains could soon be closing on the GT-R, Nissan has thrown not one but two new highly-specified T-Spec variants at the market in the form of the Premium Edition and Track edition engineered by Nismo.

Just 100 examples of the T-Specs are being produced in total, however Nissan Australia has already expressed its interest in securing at least a few units before the GT-R is forced from this market by new Australian Design Rule regulations – pricing and full specifications to be confirmed at a later date.

Due to hit Japanese showrooms from the middle of next month, the T-Spec duo are each fitted with exclusive carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, unique engine cover and exclusive badging front and rear.

According to Nissan, the ‘T-Spec’ nameplate “represents the GT-R’s philosophy of leading and shaping the times and is inspired by the words ‘trend’ and ‘traction’”.

“As a trend maker, the GT-R is created to always be ahead of the times, and the car’s ability to drive with robust grip – a key characteristic engineers have always worked hard on – make it a traction master,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

The Premium Edition T-Spec is based on the GT-R Premium Edition while its Nismo-inspired counterpart is based on the standard model.

Differentiating the two is the latter’s more focused interior design, bronze Rays forged alloy wheels, a lighter suspension set-up, carbon-fibre roof and a carbon-fibre boot lid.

Two new colours are also being debuted on the T-Specs – Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple – both harking back and paying homage to some of the hero colours donned by the R33 and R34 Skyline GT-Rs.

In terms of power, both versions continue on with the familiar VR38DETT engine which is still chucking out 419kW/632Nm.

As ever for a GT-R, drive is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
