Genesis G80 Black joins the fold

Fourth Black edition joins Genesis range, G80 Black here later this year

9 Jan 2025

GENESIS has revealed its fourth Black edition this week in the form of the G80 luxury sedan.

Now released into the Korean market, the G80 Black is expected in Australian showrooms later this year, alongside an updated range and Electrified G80 line-up.

The 2025 Genesis G80 Black joins the G90, GV80, and GV80 Coupe in scoring the all-black treatment and boasts what the Korean luxury maker describes as a “striking black colour theme that extends throughout the interior and exterior”.

All exterior features have been blacked out, including the front bumper grille, radiator grille, front emblem, window frames, rear bumper moulding, headlight inner side bezels, and the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) radar cover pattern.

The G80 Black also boasts standard 20-inch wheels in glossy black, complete with floating centre caps. A dark grey G-E-N-E-S-I-S lettering emblem is positioned at the centre of the boot lid.

Genesis says the blackened features “better highlight the base model’s unique body lines and contours”, and we must agree.

Inside, the dark theming continues with black accents and upholstery joining details including blackened air-conditioning and boot buttons, door and console switches, steering wheel, paddle shifters, door sill covers, speaker grilles, and Genesis logos.

The décor is contrasted with real wood garnishes, quilted seat leather, and the new 27.0-inch integrated wide display introduced with the MY25 update.

While pricing for the updated G80 line-up is yet to be announced, we expect some increase over the current $104,000 entry point. The model range remains powered by the choice of 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo- and 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines.

The Genesis G80 continues to rival the likes of the Audi A6 and A7, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but has to date failed to attract the same sales volume in the Australian market.

To the end of the 2024 calendar year, Genesis sold just 57 examples of the G80 nationally, well behind the Audi duo’s 340 units, BMW’s 614, and Mercedes-Benz’s 381.
