Future models - Genesis - G70 - Shooting BrakeGenesis debuts sleek G70 Shooting BrakeNew Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is aimed squarely at Europe, but Aus debut confirmed13 May 2021 LESS than a week after it was teased on Instagram, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake has been officially revealed by the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) ahead of its local arrival in the third quarter of 2021.
Aimed squarely at the European market, the Shooting Brake’s reveal comes less than a fortnight after Genesis confirmed it would be establishing itself across mainland Europe and the United Kingdom.
Measuring 4685mm long, 1850mm wide and 1400mm tall, the G70 Shooting Brake shares all of its dimensions with the forthcoming sedan – due here next month – including its 2835mm wheelbase.
That is not the case inside however with the wagon boasting a claimed 40 per cent increase in rear cargo space over to the sedan with the rear seats able to be folded in a 40:20:40 arrangement.
Visually, the Shooting Brake looks identical to the sedan in terms of its key features: it has the same crest grille/quad headlight arrangement at the front, largely setting the tone for the familiar ‘Two Lines’ design philosophy applied to the body sculpting and tail-lights.
The new shooting brake silhouette lends the Genesis a very Porsche Panamera-like silhouette and stance, especially at the rear with its rather rounded hind quarters.
While the Two Lines theme is obviously present here, the Shooting Brake flaunts a unique new rear lighting signature with four new lights embedded into the tailgate in an effort to help distinguish it better from the sedan.
Just like the key vehicle dimensions, the wagon’s interior is identical to the sedan’s with infotainment duties being taken care of by a prominently mounted 10.25-inch touchscreen system boasting over-the-air wireless updates, Valet mode and CarPay.
Going by the press images and other Genesis models, other global standard equipment highlights look to include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and stop-start system in addition to the usual suite of HMG safety goodies.
There has still been no official word on the Shooting Brake’s powertrain line-up however it would be reasonable to expect it to feature the same 179kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder as well as the 272kW/510Nm twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 earmarked for the sedan.
Genesis Motor Europe managing director Dominique Boesch said the brand was delighted to reveal a vehicle tailored specifically to European tastes ahead of its arrival in the market.
“The G70 Shooting Brake marries luxury and European automotive heritage with our design philosophy of Athletic Elegance,” she said.
“Our fifth car in Europe, the Shooting Brake will stand apart through its unique design; it is a clear statement of our commitment to the region.”
Genesis Australia has sold 29 examples of the current G70 so far this year ending April, accounting for a narrow 0.7 per cent share of the $60,000-plus medium car segment.
