Future models - Ford - TransitFord Transit upgrades due in Q3Revised Ford Transit gains new transmission, greater towing capacity and more technology2 May 2024 A REVISED MY2024.75 Ford Transit large van is due in Q3 with upgrades to the transmission, towing capacity, technology, and infotainment designed to make life easier for commercial drivers and operators.
Pricing will start from $59,990 excluding on-road costs for the entry level 350L LWB FWD van which represents a $3000 increase over the current entry level model, the 350L RWD Transit.
Competitors in the large van segment include the likes of LDV’s Deliver 9 starting from $47,358 drive-away, Fiat’s Ducato from $57,832 + ORC, Renault’s Master FWD from $49,700 + ORC and the Volkswagen Crafter from $57,850 + ORC.
The MY2024.75 Transit range comprises the following models: 350L LWB FWD van, 350L LWB RWD van, 430E (Dual Rear Wheel) ELWB RWD van, 420L RWD E-Transit van, 430E RWD Single Cab Chassis and the 410L RWD 12 seat bus.
Perhaps the most noteworthy upgrade is to Transit’s maximum braked towing capacity and Gross Combined Mass (GCM) for all load-hauling models (except E-Transit), along with minor increases to payload figures.
The 350L FWD Transit now has a maximum braked towing capacity of 2750kg, and GCM of 6000kg, an increase of 950kg and 1750kg respectively. The 350L RWD models now have a 3500kg maximum braked towing capacity and a 7000kg GCM, increases of 750kg and 900kg compared to the outgoing models.
Dual-wheel 430E Transits in both van and cab-chassis bodies now also have 3500kg towing and 7000kg GCM, up 1100kg and 900kg on the current models.
New driver assist tech’ across all models includes a tyre pressure monitoring system and all models (van and bus) now have a 360-degree camera system through a bird’s-eye view on the SYNC screen.
Cab chassis versions gain front fog lamps and front parking sensors in addition to the already standard rear parking camera.
Transit operators will no doubt appreciate Ford’s efforts to provide business related new technology as the updated Transit is fitted with the latest 5G embedded modem that is compatible with FordPass giving customers faster connectivity in 5G connected areas.
Moving inside the cabin, drivers will look at a new 8.0-inch semi-digital cluster that has a more modern look and can deliver quick access to important vehicle data.
Lifted from the E-Transit, all single rear-wheel variants now come equipped with an electronic park brake that does away with an intrusive handbrake lever that at times hindered driver access and egress.
Push-button start also makes an appearance in the upgraded model which has very minor visual changes differentiating it from the current Transit centring on new black badges and a simplified Blue Oval design.
Big news on the front-wheel drive 350L LWB model is the adoption of a new 8F57 eight-speed automatic transmission replacing the previous six-speed auto as standard.
This transmission brings with it a rotary selector in place of a traditional gear selector lever.
All ICE models run the 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbo-diesel four-cylinder cranking 121kW and 390Nm with RWD Transits fitted with a 10R80 (10-speed) automatic transmission.
The fully electric RWD E-Transit continues with a one speed transmission and electric motor output of 198kW and 430Nm making it the most powerful Transit currently available.
