Ford teases 2023 Ranger, again

New video and photo provide best look yet at Ford’s next-gen Ranger

11 Oct 2021

FORD has revealed its second teaser video of the next-generation Ranger in as many months, this time leaving little to the imagination.

Showcasing details including LED tail-lights, built-in side steps on the rear bumper and a roof-mounted shark fin antenna, a darkened, camouflaged supplementary image provides the best look yet at the rear end of the MY23 Ranger.

Ford already displayed several frontal styling cues in its previous teaser video, including an F-150 inspired fascia, for what will be the first major redesign of the Ranger in more than a decade.

Much of the development work behind the new Ranger is conducted here in Australia, Ford engineers promising the new model will be “the most capable and most connected Ranger yet”.

Ford Australia has said previously the new Ranger will debut before the end of 2022 and its underpinnings will be shared with Volkswagen’s second-generation Amarok.

While Ford is yet to detail what is under the bonnet, GoAuto understands the new Ranger will continue to offer the bi-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel (157kW/500Nm) found in the current model, alongside a six-cylinder offering tipped to be Ford’s 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 (242kW/542Nm) for use in the flagship Ranger Raptor.

A 3.0-litre Powerstroke diesel offering making up to 186kW/597Nm is also rumoured, as is a 2.3-litre PowerBoost petrol-electric plug-in hybrid, producing as much as 270kW/680Nm and furthering Ford Australia’s commitment to launch at least five electrified here by 2025.

“With superior off-road credentials paired with Ford’s dynamic driving DNA, the Next-Generation Ranger will be the perfect vehicle for work, family, and play,” Ford Australia said in a statement last month.

“This is not just a Built Ford Tough truck; it is the smartest and most versatile Ranger yet.”

Ford is also tipped to include a suite of new safety technologies in the new Ranger, adding a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert to the list.
