Super TestCar reviews - Volkswagen - Beetle - 2.0 Ikon 3-dr hatchVolkswagen modelsDash15 Feb 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON THE Beetle's interior presentation, particularly the dash design, is an interesting blend of shapes from Beetles of yore and new design cues that are easily recognised as the work of the car's creator, J. Mays, now the styling chief of the Ford Motor Company. The cab-forward windscreen produces a massive upper dashboard area. The dash pays homage to the minimalist style of the original with a single, round presentation of instruments. Then, of course, there is the nostaligic bud vase - large, smiley sunflowers only, please! Just like the original, a dash-mounted grabhandle is provided for the front passenger. Instrument backlighting is a distinctive indigo blue.
