Super TestCar reviews - Toyota - LandCruiser Prado - TX 5-dr wagonToyota modelsTransmission15 Feb 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON THE automatic turbo-diesel uses the same electronically controlled transmission as the V6 petrol variant. It has four speeds and uses a lock-up torque converter that helps economy at cruise speeds. A second gear start facility aids traction in low-friction starts. The manual box has an upgraded clutch able to handle the extra torque of the turbo-diesel. To qualify as a proper off-roader, the Prado gets a dual-range transmission with a transfer case operated by a lever on the transmission tunnel. Full-time four-wheel drive is via a centre differential that can be locked for serious off-road work. This operates automatically when the system is operating in low range. The traction control system available on V6 models can't be had with the turbo-diesel. Did you know? For smoother operation, Toyota changed the weight of the transfer case dynamic damper by 900 gramsAll car reviewsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chevrolet Chery Citroen Chrysler Dodge Cupra Ferrari DS Ford Fiat FPV Foton GWM Great Wall Holden Haval HSV Honda Hyundai Hummer Isuzu Infiniti Jeep Jaguar Lamborghini Kia LDV Land Rover Lotus Lexus Maserati Mahindra McLaren Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG Mini MG Nissan Mitsubishi Peugeot Opel Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen |
