Super TestCar reviews - Mazda - 626 - rangeMazda modelsUsed Rivals18 Jun 2003 SUBARU LIBERTY 4D SEDAN (1989-1994) THE Liberty has a similar level of equipment but less interior space than the 626. The 2.2-litre, flat four engine is economical and with 100kW has competitive performance although some people may find the engine noise annoying. The styling is looking dated but the ride, particularly on rougher surfaces, is very good. NISSAN U13 BLUEBIRD 4D SEDAN (1993-1997) THE Bluebird is close to the 626 in terms of cabin space and equipment. With 112kW from the twin cam, 2.4-litre engine, it has good grip and handling, and is the best driver's car in this group. But the model never proved very popular, and the curvy styling dated quickly. HONDA ACCORD 4D SEDAN (1993-1997) THE '93 Accord is a stylish and well-equipped family car with exceptionally high standard of build quality. The refined, independent double wishbone suspension provides good handling and ride properties, while the 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine produces 94kW and is smooth and economical. Parts and servicing can be costly though. PEUGEOT D80 405 4D SEDAN (1993-1996) THE SRi introduced a comprehensive mechanical and interior update which transformed the 405 into a leader in this class. The Peugeot combined attractive styling with excellent ride, handling and steering. Its 89kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is strong and provides good low and mid-range torque.
