Super TestCar reviews - Honda - Civic - Breeze 3-dr hatchHonda modelsOverview9 May 2003 HONDA'S recession-era response to skyrocketing EG Civic prices was the stripped-out Breeze. Its original '91 iteration suffered from a puny 55kW 1.3 engine and sparse equipment levels, so in late '93 Honda upped the power to 67kW from a 1.5 and implemented a few mechanical and safety-related refinements. Adequate - rather than startling - performance was the result, but the hatch still suffered from its rattly two-piece tailgate, few creature comforts beyond cloth trim, a heater and power steering, and no automatic option. At least it now kept up with traffic better, while the lovely styling, strong Honda quality attributes and built-to-last engineering was still there.
