A heavy duty shock absorber kit was introduced in January, 1999, intended specifically for challenging and extended off-road driving. The suspension calibration was further revised on the 1999 model introduced mid-year, to enhance towing capability. Wheels and tyres were also upgraded from 15 to 16-inch in 1999 to match XLT and Limited. The front bumper was also restyled, along with strengthened roof racks, for the 1999 model year. The driver's left footrest was deleted in 1997.
