AUDI is determined to keep the hard-charging BMW X3, Range Rover Evoque and Volvo XC60 from stealing its medium prestige SUV/crossover sales crown, so a mild facelift has arrived, with two all-new engines, eight-speed auto availability, big efficiency improvements and the latest driver-assistance and multimedia technology.
There is also a higher level of standard specification with little or no price rise, to help keep the Ingolstadt contender number one in its class.
Can they keep the four-year old German competitive?

Q5 Series 1
Released: March 2009
Ended: November 2012
Family Tree: Q5A new venture for Audi, the Q5 adopted many of the brand’s styling cues from the successful Q7 luxury liner and refined them in a medium-sized premium SUV/crossover package with outstanding success.
Based on the MLB longitudinal platform developed for the B8-series A4/A5 range, the Q5 was meant to look, feel and drive like an Audi.
Two four-cylinder (155kW/350Nm 2.0 TFSI petrol and 125kW/350Nm 2.0 TDI turbo-diesel) and two V6 (195kW/330Nm 3.2 FSI petrol and 176kW/500 3.0 TDI turbo-diesel) models were offered, all with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission dubbed S-tronic in Audi-speak, as well as quattro all-wheel drive with 40:60 front/rear torque split.
The Q5 quickly set the pace in its class against the ageing BMW X3 but equally new Volvo XC60, to become Audi’s overall best-seller.
