When Subaru introduced its all-new Liberty early in 2015, the mid-sized sedan brought a selection of new equipment and safety gear such as the company's Eyesight stereoscopic camera technology, but its most notable feature was a price reduction of up to 25 per cent over the outgoing version.

The new sedan range brought a base 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder, mid-range Premium with more kit and the range-topping 3.6R with a horizontally opposed six-cylinder, but the previously available wagon did not return.

A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) was the only drivetrain option across the board, as was Subaru's trademark symmetrical four-wheel drive system.

Just a year after the launch of the Liberty and Outback pair, Subaru delivered a light model year update for both ranges, bringing a suspension revision and Vision Assist safety tech to the line-up, while the Outback got the company's acclaimed EyeSight stereoscopic active safety system for all auto variants.
