Impreza AWD MY01

With the unexpected success of the rally-proven WRX model, the second generation Impreza was eagerly awaited, but disappointed many fans with its distinctive round headlight treatment.

Dubbed MY01 and built on a significantly modified version of the old platform, the new Impreza was stronger, more refined, better built and safer, and garnered a swag of awards.

Again available in four-door sedan or five-door hatchback guises, the 4WD range kicked off with the 92kW normally aspirated single-cam and 160kW turbocharged twin-cam 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder in GX/RX and WRX respectively.

Subaru added a duo-tone “Outback” style 92kW RV hatch in May ’01.
