Peugeot RCZ

Peugeot’s swoopy coupe enjoyed a good reception when it launched in 2000 thanks mainly to its good looks so when it returned with a face-lift in 2013 it was visually only slightly altered.

New 19-inch alloy wheels complimented the styling but low profile tyres provided a poor ride and struggled to keep up with uneven surfaces.

On a good road the RCZ provided a lively drive with a good engine note, adequate performance and confidence inspiring brakes.

Engine sizes remained unchanged with a 1.6-litre petrol providing 115kW and 240Nm in the automatic version while the manual enjoyed a little more poke with 147kW and 275Nm.

Fuel consumption figures were 7.3 litres per 100 kilometers for the manual and 6.9L/100km for the manual.

A 2.0-litre diesel version was still available but on an order only basis as it previously accounted for just one in 20 sales.

New gloss black roof rails replaced the previous silver items creating a more uniform look but removing some desirable definition.

A neat satellite navigation screen emerged from the dash when required and was a standard feature on the new version RCZ rather than the cost option on outgoing models.

Interior finish was good with high-quality materials in subtle dark colours.

Front seats were supportive and comfortable but rear seats were little more than a gesture.

All variants shared the same price of $58,990 which represents a $4000 increase over the previous model.
