CE Series I Lancer

An all-new two-door coupe and four-door sedan body, redesigned cabin, improved engines and refinement, the introduction of the three-door hatchback Mirage, the discontinuation of the high-performance GSR and 1988-vintage five-door hatch, and the facelifted CC-based wagon signalled the enduring CE series.

The engine line-up was now simplified to a 69kW 1.5L 12-valve unit (GLi) and 86kW 1.8L powerplant (GLXi, MR Coupe). A four-speed auto became an option throughout the range. Sales continued to be brisk.
