Holden Colorado taken to Xtremes

Low boy: The Walkinshaw Xtreme suspension and wheel packages for Holden Colorado can lower the ride height – as seen left – or raise it, if the owner prefers the high-rider look.

Walkinshaw suspension packages lift Holden Colorado to new heights – and lows

15 May 2014

WALKINSHAW Automotive Group is cashing in on the Australian boom in personalised utes by offering suspension and wheel packages for current-model Holden Colorados.

Colorado owners can choose to raise their rig via the Xtreme High Rider kit or drop it closer to the deck with the Xtreme Low Rider modification. Both packages are fitted for $6990.

The aftermarket kits slide into the Walkinshaw armoury alongside performance packages for the Holden Commodore, Captiva, Barina and Cruze.

A sister company to both Holden Special Vehicles and Walkinshaw Performance,Walkinshaw Automotive says the kits are more than just a dress-up accessory for the vehicle, addressing “one of the key concerns for Colorado owners – the ride and handling”.

Says Walkinshaw Automotive general manager Tony Harris: “The first thing you're going to notice is the improved response and general feel of the car. It's quicker to react and really fun to drive."The Low Rider version reduces the ride height at the rear of the vehicle by about 30mm, while the High Rider raises the front by about 50mm and the rear by about 15mm.

The Walkinshaw-engineered suspension modifications include Bilstein struts with Walkinshaw-developed valving and revised spring rates, and unique Walkinshaw Automotive 19-inch forged alloy wheels in graphite black.

Tyres for the Low Rider package are Continental 255/55 R19 road tyres, while the High Rider sits on Cooper Zeon 255/55 R19 off-road tyres.

Despite the changes to the ride height and dynamics, Walkinshaw Automotive says the packages have no impact on vehicle GVM or load-carrying capacity, ESC or speedometer calibration.

Suitable for both 4x2 and 4x4 Colorados, the packages will be available from selected Holden dealers in limited numbers through July and August, with an ignition run of 30 Low Riders and 70 High Riders.

Most of the initial stock has already been committed to Victorian dealers, but Walkinshaw says if plans more in October to meet expected demand.

Alongside the Xtreme kits, Walkinshaw is also offering daytime running lights for $795.
