Tesla Model 3 recalled for ADR non-compliance

Recently updated Tesla Model 3 found to not possess top-tether rear-centre restraint

1 Feb 2024

TESLA will recall more than 500 examples of its recently updated Model 3 after the model was found to not possess an accessible top-tether child seat anchor point in the rear-centre seating position.

GoAuto understands the recall impacts only Highland grades of the Model 3, deliveries of which commenced in December of 2023.

According to the Australian government’s Vehicle Recalls website, the “rear centre seat position of the Model 3 does not have an accessible top-restraint anchorage point as required by Australia Design Rule (ADR) 34/03”.

“If the top-tether restraint anchorage for the rear-centre seat is not accessible in accordance with Australian Design Rule 34/03, an infant or child car seat restraint cannot be securely attached to it,” the statement continues.

Tesla Australia asks that affected vehicle owners not install a child seat in the rear centre seat position until such time as the issue is rectified.

The importer will contact affected vehicle owners to schedule a service appointment to carry out a part replacement to provide access to the rear-centre seat top-tether restraint anchorage.

“Until this is completed, consumers should not secure an infant or child car seat on the rear-centre seat or otherwise attach an infant or child car seat restraint to the top-tether anchorage,” says the Vehicle Recalls website.

Concerned customers may contact the Tesla Australia customer service centre on 1800 646 952.
