Renault chases new Canberra dealer

RENAULT Australia says it will announce a new distribution outlet in Canberra in the “not too distant future” as it continues negotiations with prospective new-car dealerships in the Australian Capital Territory.

The French brand has been without representation in the ACT since National Capital Motors in Canberra ceased selling new Renaults at the end of April this year. It is understood there was a disagreement over the location of the existing showroom which, according to one source, was not to Renault Australia’s specification.

Managing director Rudi Koenig told GoAuto last week that Renault Australia was working to fill the gap in the network, but had nothing to announce yet. It is believed that Renault is seeking a multi-franchise dealership with established high-volume brands such as Ford or Holden.

In the meantime, the company has set up a service and spare parts centre in Canberra for owners of existing models.
