News - Mercedes-BenzMercedes utes with a bit XtraNZ company to distribute Polish-sourced enhancements for Mercedes X-Class28 Nov 2018 PIMPED Mercedes-Benz X-Class utes spotted in Melbourne are the handiwork of a joint venture between aftermarket vehicle enhancement specialists in Poland and New Zealand.
With exterior and interior enhancements designed and made in Poland by Carlex Design, the so-called Exy utes are in the process of being launched in Australasia and the Pacific region by Auckland-based RVE International under the Pickup Design brand.
RVE is in the process of setting up an installation network in Australia to handle the fitment of the kits that include high-end interior fittings – including Nappa leather-trimmed sports seats – along with bespoke body work and accessories such as sports bars.
GoAuto recently spotted two of the Mercedes utes outside Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific’s head office in Melbourne where, according to Mercedes sources, they were being shown to Mercedes representatives by an RVE dealer.
RVE business development and international sales manager Jim Stanners confirmed RVE had established a joint venture with Carlex Design in Europe, securing the distribution rights for this region.
Both Carlex and RVE specialise in enhancing vehicles of several brands, but this appears to be the first time the Carlex handiwork has been offered Down Under.
According to Carlex’s website, it offers limited-edition enhanced versions of the Volkswagen Amarok, Nissan Navara, Toyota HiLux, Renault Alaskan, Fiat Fullback, Mitsubishi L200 (Triton) and now, the X-Class.
Each is sold under a model name derived from the original – Amy (Amarok), Navy (Navara), Hilly (HiLux) and Exy (X-Class) and so on. The four products mentioned above are now being offered in NZ, with Australia to follow.
In Europe, the Carlex’s Mercedes Exy is offered in six styles, ranging from sedate to wild.
In New Zealand, RVE offers its own range of enhancements for eight brands of ute, including models not covered by Carlex – the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Holden Colorado and Mazda BT-50.
According to a statement announcing the joint venture, Carlex will offer RVE products in Europe while at the same time supplying its products to RVE for Australasia. Read more |
